This info sheet provides an overview of key DTM figures and programming in the East and Horn of Africa region. In 2022, DTM was active in 7 countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan and Uganda.

The Horn of Africa and Yemen is one of the busiest and riskiest migration corridors in the world travelled by hundreds of thousands of migrants, the majority of whom travel in an irregular manner, often relying on smugglers to facilitate movement along the Eastern Route.
A total of 13,007 movements were observed between the 15th and 31st of October, 2022, representing a similar trend to 2021 when 14,207 movements were observed during the same period. Regional differences were observed.

In October 2022, a total of 2,222 people were interviewed at four Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) across the border between Uganda and Kenya. Similar to the previous period, more people interviewed were incoming to Uganda (55%) than outgoing to Kenya (45%).
