De 21 de Junho a 3 de Julho de 2021, em estreita coordenação com o governo provincial de Cabo Delgado, as equipas da Matriz de Monitoria de Deslocamentos (DTM) da Organização Internacional para as Migrações (OIM) realizaram Avaliações Multi-sectoriais de Locais (MSLA) em 42 locais que acolhem 144, 515 deslocados internos (PDIs) na província de Cabo Delgado, 1 local com 3.969 PDIs na província de Nampula, e 2 locais com 360 PDIs na província do Niassa, em resposta aos deslocamentos em massa causados pela situação de insegurança no norte. Em todos os locais, a maioria dos deslocados internos foram deslocados pela situação de insegurança.

From 14 September to 1 October 2021, in close coordination with Mozambique’s National Institute for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction (INGD) of Manica and Sofala, the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) teams conducted Multi-Sectoral Location Assessments (MSLA) in 72 sites hosting 109,275 internally displaced persons (IDPs) - 83,018 in Sofala and 26,257 in Manica - in response to the mass displacements caused by Tropical Cyclone Idai, Tropical Cyclone Eloise, Tropical Storm Chalane, floods, violence and insecurity in the Central region, and the conflict in Cabo Delgado. Of the total 109,275 individuals in the assessed sites, 26,331 (or 24%) are women, 23,673 (22%) are men, and 59,271 (54%) are children. Demographic data in Figures 2 and 3 is a sample collected through random sampling of twenty households per site.

From 17 to 31 August 2021, in close coordination with the provincial government of Cabo Delgado, the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) teams conducted Multi-Sectoral Location Assessments (MSLA) in 53 sites hosting 195,250 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Cabo Delgado province, 1 site with 4,910 IDPs in Nampula province, and 2 sites with 340 IDPs in Niassa province, in response to the mass displacements caused by the insecurity situation in the north. In all sites, the majority of IDPs were displaced by the insecurity situation.

This thirteenth DTM Baseline Assessment Report aims to improve the understanding of internal displacement trends and displaced populations’ needs in Cabo Delgado, Inhambane, Niassa, Nampula, Zambezia and Sofala provinces. DTM Round 9 assessments were carried in 118 localities of the Cabo Delgado province, also covering Inhambane (6 localities), Nampula (77 localities), Niassa (12 localities), Zambezia (6 localities), and Sofala (2 localities).
As of September, an estimated 642,404 IDPs were identified in Cabo Delgado, while an additional 99,448 IDPs were identified in Nampula, 1,221 IDPs in Niassa, 1,602 IDPs in Zambezia, 164 IDPs in Sofala and 110 IDPs in Inhambane. This brings the total number of IDPs due to the situation of insecurity to 744,949 IDPs. This represents an increase of 12,722 displaced individuals compared to the previous round (April 2021). All displacements are a result of the insecurity situation in Cabo Delgado province.

Of the total 148,844 individuals in the assessed sites, 39,980 (or 27%) are women, 27,093 (18%) are men, and 81,771 (55%) are children. Figures 2 and 3 are based on a random sampling of twenty households taken at each site.

From 16 March to 14 April 2021, in close coordination with Mozambique’s National Institute for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction (INGD), International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) teams conducted multi-sectoral location assessments (MSLA) in resettlement sites hosting internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the four provinces affected by Cyclone Idai (March 2019) and floods (between December 2019 and February 2020).

The assessments were carried out following Tropical Cyclone Eloise, which hit the central region of Mozambique on 23 January 2021. The most affected districts were Buzi, Dondo Nhamatanda, and Chibabava in Sofala province. Around 8,755 families in the resettlement sites had their tents and shelters destroyed/partially destroyed as a result of Tropical Cyclone Eloise.

From 19 May to 2 June 2021, in close coordination with the provincial government of Cabo Delgado, the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) teams conducted Multi-Sectoral Location Assessments (MSLA) in 34 sites hosting 122,549 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Cabo Delgado province and 1 site with 3,225 IDPs in Nampula province, in response to the mass displacements caused by the insecurity situation in the north. In all sites, the majority of IDPs were displaced by the insecurity situation. The districts hosting the largest numbers of IDPs in sites were Metuge (67,741 individuals), Montepuez (26,679), and Ancuabe (10,332).

The results from the assessment show that Quissanga is the district of origin for the largest number of IDPs (in sites holding 66,451 individuals), followed by Mocimboa da Praia (25,486), and Macomia (16,473).

The twelfth round of the DTM Baseline assessment was carried out in 155 localities, located in the provinces of Cabo Delgado (102 localities), Nampula (36 localities), Niassa (9 localities), Sofala (2 localities) and Zambezia (6 localities). As of April 2021, an estimated 662,828 IDPs were identified in Cabo Delgado, while an additional 66,913 IDPs were identified in Nampula, 1,200 in Zambezia, 1,133 in Niassa, and 153 in Sofala. This brings the total number of individuals displaced in the five provinces to 732,227* Internally Displaced Persons, or 155,494 displaced families. All displacements are a result of the insecurity situation in Cabo Delgado province.

During the reporting period (19 - 27 May 2021), a total of 221 movements were recorded - 209 arrivals (8,117 individuals), 9 departures (263 individuals), and 3 transits (118 individuals). The largest arrivals were recorded in Nangade (2,473), Cidade de Pemba (1,982), Mueda (1,735) and Ibo (638). Departures were recorded in Mueda (200), Ibo (46), Metuge (12), and Namuno (5). The transitory movement were recorded in Nangade (95), Ibo (21), and Namuno (2).
