The DTM Emergency Tracking Tool (ETT) is deployed to track and collect information on large and sudden population movements, provide frequent updates on the scale of displacement and quantify the affected population when needed. As a sub-component of the mobility tracking methodology in Nigeria, ETT utilizes direct observations and a broad network of key informants to capture the best estimates of the affected population per location, enabling targeted humanitarian response planning.
Between 09 and 15 October 2023, a total of 1,231 new arrivals were recorded at locations in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states. The new arrivals were recorded at locations in Askira/Uba, Bama, Bui, Damboa, Dikwa, Gwoza, Kala/Balge, Monguno, and Ngala Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the most conflict-affected Borno State, in Fufore, Gombi, Lamurde, Maiha, Michika, Mubi North, Mubi South, Song, Yola North and Yola South LGAs of Adamawa State and in Damaturu, Fune, Potiskum and Tarmua LGAs of Yobe State.

In September 2023, a total of 37,742 movements were observed across the six flow monitoring points (FMPs) in Ethiopia. This represents a 6% increase in daily average movements in comparison with August 2023 when an average of 1,187 movements per day were observed.

Outgoing movements (71.8%) during September increased while incoming movements (28.2%) decreased compared to the previous month, mainly due to decreased incoming flows from neighboring Sudan through the Metema and Kurmuk entry points. A total of 27,108 outgoing movements were observed, of which 11,204 (41.3%) were heading to Saudi Arabia, 5,489 (20.2%) were going to Kenya, 3,631 (13.4%) were travelling towards Somalia, 3,023 (11.2%) to Djibouti, 1,173 (4.3%) intending to reach Yemen, 976 (3.6%) heading to Sudan, and 878 (3.2%) to South Africa, while remaining movements were travelling to other southern African, Middle Eastern, European and North American countries.

At the same time, 10,634 incoming movements were observed, of which 4,528 (42.6%) originated from Sudan, mainly fleeing the conflict that started in April, while 2,145 (20.2%) came from Somalia, 1,990 (18.7%) from Kenya, 1,783 (16.8%) from Djibouti, and the remaining from Yemen, Uganda, South Sudan and Burundi.

In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, there were 16.2 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) as of end 2022. This figure constitutes 23 per cent of the global number of IDPs, making MENA the region with the second highest concentration of IDPs following the sub-Saharan Africa region. Most displacement in the MENA region (80%) has been triggered by armed conflict, particularly in Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen.

This report covers DTM activities in five countries (Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, and Lebanon) from April 2023 to June 2023. All five countries implemented mobility tracking activities. Flow monitoring in operational in Yemen and Libya, through a network of flow monitoring points (FMP) and Flow Monitoring Surveys with the main aim of tracking cross-border movement trends in the region.

Grâce à un financement d'urgence du CERF, l'OIM a fourni des abris de transition en août et septembre 2023 à 284 ménages de retournés tchadiens déplacés par la crise du Soudan, sur le site de Tongori (Ouaddaï). ACTED a fourni 47 abris supplémentaires.
