In December 2023, the TTT early warning tool captured 84 alerts in Batsari, Dan Musa, Jibia and Kankara LGAs of Katsina State. The triangulated alerts included events (85%) and massive/sudden movements (15%) during the period.

Between 26 December 2023 and 17 January 2024, a series of attacks in villages across Macomia, and Muidumbe triggered the displacement 5,343. Of the total individuals displaced, 411 families with 1,407 individuals have taken refuge in displacement centers of Macomia (Changane, Xinavane, Nanga A and Nanga B), 220 families with 740 individuals have taken refuge in displacement centers of Mueda (Imbuhu, Mpeme) and 78 families with 260 individuals have taken refuge in displacement centers of Muidumbe (Miteda and Lutete).

In December 2023, a total of 246 alerts were reported, consisting of 211 events (86%) and 35 movements (14%). The alerts included 155 (63%) and 91 (37%) reports in Adamawa and Taraba states, respectively. The reported event alerts encompassed farmer-herder conflicts, inter and intra-community tensions, and disasters. In contrast, the movement alerts involved massive and early movements. Zing LGAs in Taraba state and Lamurde LGA in Adamawa state recorded the highest number of alerts, accounting for 22 and 20 per cent, respectively. Following closely were Lau (15%), Demsa (12%), Mayo-belwa (9%), Numan (7%), Girei (7%), Guyuk (5%), and Shelleng (3%). Disaggregated ward-level data suggest that Kodomti in Numan LGA and Waduku ward in Lamurde LGA of Adamawa state documented the highest number of alerts at the ward at 8 and 7 per cent respectively. This is followed by Monkin in Zing LGA of Taraba state and Lamurde ward in Lamurde LGA in Adamawa state, each accounting for 5 per cent of event alerts.

In recent years, widespread insecurity in Haiti has caused thousands of people to flee their areas of residence. Although the violence most often occurs in the Port-au-Prince Metropolitan Area (PAPMA) located in the West district, other departments are also affected as more and more people leave the PAPMA to take refuge in provincial districts.

This report presents key results of DTM assessments conducted end of 2023 in the districts of West, South, South-East, Artibonite, Grande Anse, Centre and Nippes on the displacement situation in the country. In total, 313,901 persons are internally displaced in the country, the majority of them being children (55%). Results indicate that 147,000 persons have fled the PAPMA to take refuge in provincial districts. 

Overview

From 15 April 2023, armed clashes erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in multiple cities across Sudan. Clashes initially took place in cities across Northern and Khartoum states, later spreading across the Darfur and Kordofan regions.

 

Highlights

• DTM Sudan estimates that  6,055,749 individuals (1,206,376 Households) were recently internally displaced.
• The IDP caseload was observed in 6,355 locations across all of Sudan’s 18 states. 
• The highest proportions of IDPs were observed across South Darfur (12%), River Nile (11%), East Darfur (11%), White Nile (8%), Aj Jazirah (8%), and North Darfur (8%).
• Field teams reported that the IDPs observed were originally displaced from twelve states. The majority (3,558,396 IDPs, 59%) were reportedly displaced from Khartoum state; followed by South Darfur (15%), North Darfur (8%), Aj Jazirah ((8%), Central Darfur (4%), West Darfur (3%), East Darfur (1%), South Kordofan (1%), North Kordofan (1%), West Kordofan (<1%), Sennar (<1%), and White Nile (<1%).
• IOM-DTM also reported that an estimated 1,686,884 mixed cross-border movements were made into neighbouring countries.

La RDC est confrontée à l’une des plus importantes, complexes et longues crises humanitaires au monde. Marquée par des déplacements massifs, des besoins critiques en services sociaux et des violations des droits humains, cette crise est le résultat de conflits armés et interethniques persistants, d’épidémies et de catastrophes naturelles. La menace constante de violence et la détérioration de la situation sécuritaire exacerbent la situation humanitaire de manière de plus en plus critique, générant plusieurs millions de personnes déplacées internes. En particulier, dans les provinces de l'est, la résurgence des conflits armés et des violences intercommunautaires entrave l'accès et la délivrance de services humanitaires, alors que les besoins restent extrêmement élevés.

Pour répondre de manière opportune aux besoins humanitaires urgents et offrir une assistance ciblée et adaptée au contexte, les acteurs humanitaires ont besoin d'informations sur les récents mouvements de populations, leurs emplacements et le profil de la population, l'Organisation Internationale pour les Migrations (OIM) a mis en place la DTM, conçue pour capturer, traiter et diffuser régulièrement et systématiquement ces informations. Cela vise à permettre aux décideurs de mieux comprendre les tendances migratoires, les besoins évolutifs des populations déplacées et faciliter la prise de décision. Ce rapport résume les activités clés réalisées par DTM en RDC ainsi que les principales réussites de l'équipe pour l'année 2023.

The DRC is facing one of the largest, most complex and longest-running humanitarian crises in the world. Marked by massive displacement, critical needs for basic services and human rights violations, this crisis is the result of persistent armed and inter-ethnic conflicts, epidemics and natural disasters. The constant threat of violence and the deteriorating security situation are exacerbating the humanitarian situation in an increasingly critical way, generating several million internally displaced people. In the eastern provinces in particular, the resurgence of armed conflict and inter-communal violence is hampering access to and the delivery of humanitarian services, while needs remain extremely high.

In order to respond in a timely manner to urgent humanitarian needs and provide targeted assistance adapted to the context, humanitarian actors require information on recent population movements, their locations and the profile of the population. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has set up the DTM, designed to capture, process and disseminate this information regularly and systematically. The aim is to give decisionmakers a better understanding of migration trends and the changing needs of displaced populations, and to facilitate decision-making. This report summarizes the key activities undertaken by DTM DRC alongside the team's principal achievements of 2023.
