Site Assessment

On 7 July 2023, Mt. Bagana located in Torokina district in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (ARoB) in Papua New Guinea, experienced a moderate volcanic eruption that caused significant ashfall. The affected and at-risk communities, especially those living near Mt. Bagana volcano, have started evacuating to identified evacuation/care centres at Wakunai station in Central Bougainville and Piva station (Torokina) in South Bougainville. The evacuation has been undertaken in coordination with the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG). On 21 July 2023, the Papua New Guinea National Disaster Centre (NDC) reported that the emergency evacuation operation was ongoing, and locals were in the process of fully evacuating to the temporary care centres. This displacement profile presents findings from the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) assessment conducted at Wakunai and Piva station care centres from 26-30 July 2023.

In recent years, widespread insecurity in the Metropolitan Area of Port-au-Prince (MAPAP) caused thousands of people to flee their areas of residence. In order to regularly inform authorities and other partners on the displacement situation in the MAPAP, and thus inform response strategies for displaced persons and communities hosting them, the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC) and IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) launched in August 2022 periodic assessment activities of neighborhoods and sites hosting displaced populations. Data is collected through direct observations as well as interviews with key informants in areas hosting displaced populations. Three update exercises (Rounds) have already been conducted and dedicated reports have been published: round 1 conducted between June and August 2022, round 2 between October and November 2022 and round 3 between February and March 2023. Several movements have been reported in areas outside of the MAPAP. Thus, data collection activities were extended to the entire West District from the fourth update exercise (Round 4). This new exercise thus includes not only the municipalities located in the MAPAP but also those located beyond it. This dashboard presents the key results from this round 4 conducted from June 3 to July 3, 2023. In total, 143,209 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were identified in the West district (32,527 households), half of them being children (50%). Moreover, the presence of 30,264 former IDP returnees has been identified in the district. Of the IDPs, 41 percent are hosted in spontaneous sites and 59 percent in host communities. These proportions were respectively 38 and 62 percent in round 3. In fact, since round 2, an increase in the proportion of IDPs hosted in sites has been observed while those in host communities continue to decline

Although the violence most often occurs in the Metropolitan Area of Port-au-Prince (MAPAP) located in the West district, other districts are also affected. This is the case of the Center district which is particularly affected by the displacement of populations fleeing the MAPAP to seek refuge there. In order to regularly inform authorities as well as other partners on the displacement situation in the Center, the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC) and IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) launched in June 2023 activities of periodic assessments of the municipality sections and sites hosting displaced populations in this district. Data is collected through interviews with key informants in areas hosting displaced populations as well as through direct observation. This dashboard presents the key results from the first assessment exercise at the Center (Round 1), which was conducted from 16 to 22 June 2023. All the municipality sections in the Center were assessed, making a total of 35 sections. A total of 28,975 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have been identified (6,257 households), more than half of whom are children (59%). Among the IDPs, 1% are accommodated in two spontaneous sites including a site located in the first section Juanaria (Municipality of Hinche) hosting 272 IDPs and another in the second section Lociane (Municipality of Thomassique) hosting 27 IDPs. The rest of the IDPs (99%) are hosted in host communities. In addition, the presence of 1,298 returnees formerly IDPs was identified in the district

In recent years, widespread insecurity in Haiti has led to massive population displacements in several districts of the country, including Artibonite. Although violence is more frequent in the Metropolitan Area of Port-auPrince (MAPAP), other districts are also affected, with 87% of population displacements in Artibonite due to attacks and violence. To regularly monitor the displacement situation in this district, the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC) and the IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) launched in April 2023 periodic assessments of municipality sections and sites hosting displaced populations (Round 1). Data is collected through interviews with key informants in areas hosting displaced populations, as well as through direct observation. This dashboard presents the key results of the second exercise of these assessments (Round 2) conducted from 12 to 19 June 2023 in all 63 municipality sections of Artibonite. A total of 22,440 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have been identified (6,352 households), more than half of whom are children (57%). Among IDPs, 7 per cent are hosted in seven spontaneous sites located in the municipalities of Gros Morne, Saint-Marc, Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite and Verettes, while the rest (93%) are hosted in host communities. In addition, 9,186 returnees, formerly IDPs, were identified in the district

In 2022, there were 95 active DTM operations. This largescale data collection initiative follows a central tenet that data collection should serve the data needs of actors on the ground. While all DTM data collection exercises follow a standard methodological framework, approaches must be tailored to to ensure relevance across the range of populations, crises, cultures, political contexts, and response capacities in the locations where DTM works. In support of this adaptable approach, an annual survey is conducted at the end of each year to capture and document specific information about each active DTM operation. Data from this survey form the basis of this report, and further detailed findings can be explored through the accompanying interactive dashboard.

Desde enero a mayo del 2023, se registraron lluvias intensas que han causado daños en la salud de las personas, viviendas, medios de vida (agricultura, ganadería, otros) e infraestructura pública y privada en los distritos que conforman la provincia de Piura. Asimismo, de acuerdo con los datos reportados por el Instituto Nacional de Defensa Civil (INDECI) en el Informe de Emergencia N º1866, en la región de Piura se registró un total de 82.043 viviendas afectadas, 6.516 viviendas inhabitables y 1.773 viviendas destruidas. Además, hubo un total de 25.247 personas damnificadas y 257.203 afectados.

Desde enero a mayo del 2023, se registró lluvias intensas que han causado daños en la salud de las personas, viviendas, medios de vida (agricultura, ganadería, otros) e infraestructura pública y privada en los distritos que conforman la provincia de Lima. Estas lluvias intensas y otros fenómenos como el aumento de temperatura y desbordes de los ríos se registraron principalmente durante los meses de febrero, marzo y abril en Lima Metropolitana y provincias, dejando un total de 6.682 viviendas afectadas, 562 inhabitables y 547 destruidas; además de infraestructura afectada y/o destruida destinada a servicios de educación, transporte, saneamiento. La afectación humana fue de 2.700 personas damnificadas y 14.419 afectados. 

From June to October 2022, storms and heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan have caused widespread flooding and landslides across the country. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), up to 33 million people have been affected by the floods and a total of 90 districts have been labelled by the Government of Pakistan as ‘calamity-hit’, as of 18 November 2022. Given the number of calamity-hit districts and the number of affected people, IOM's Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) decided to roll out its Community Needs Identification (CNI) assessment. This was done following coordination and approval from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Following the first round of the CNI, IOM implemented a second round of the CNI between January and March 2023 to provide partners with timely information on the displacement situation and multisectoral needs of the affected population at the village level.2 For the second round, IOM expanded its CNI from 13 to 19 districts in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The CNI was conducted in a total of 6,367 flood affected villages or villages that hosted temporary displaced persons (TDPs) across the 19 targeted districts.
