In July 2024, the IOM Yemen DTM tracked 1,345 migrants entering Yemen, a 26 per cent decrease from the total figure reported in the previous month (1,820 migrants). All migrants (100%) left from Bari Region in Somalia.

Among the total migrants recorded, 26 per cent were children, 22 per cent were women, and 52 per cent were men.

Typically, Lahj serves as an entry point for migrants departing through Djibouti whereas Shabwah serves as an entry point for migrants departing through Somalia. During this reporting period, all recorded departed from Somalia to the coastal area of Shabwah Governorate. During the same period, no migrants departing from Djibouti to Lahj were tracked by IOM, likely due to measures taken by the government to combat smuggling. Since those measures were implemented, starting August 2023, the flow of migrants along this route has been nearly absent in the months that followed, with one exception in December 2023 when a boat brought 110 migrants to shore.

Since October 8 there has been an increase in cross-border incidents between Israel and Lebanon, resulting in the displacement of people both within the South and elsewhere within the country. Since October 10, the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) has been conducting the daily monitoring of population movements. The objective of the exercise is to inform preparedness and response planning.

Scattered rains experienced during the months of June and July triggered flash floods and heavy storms. Lightning was reported in the Karamoja region in Amudat district, land conflicts in Wakiso and Amuru while public riots in Kamwenge. The hazards affected 12,446 individuals (2,777 households), with 1,989 people from 540 households internally displaced. Adults between 18 and 64 years were the most affected age group (48%), followed by children below the age of 18 (39%) and elderly above 64 (13%). Notably, more than half of affected people were female (55%). Urgent needs have emerged, with health, food assistance and NFI as critical priorities in the aftermath of the hazards. Infrastructure damage was significant, with 231 houses completely destroyed, 150 houses partially damaged, and 69 water facilities, 9 schools and 8 health facilities affected.

Since 2014, the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) unit in Iraq has collected information on internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees using a network of key informants across the country.1 Data for this round were collected from 1 January to 30 April 2024. For this current round, in contrast to prior ones, DTM excluded all the locations where the the key informant was not accessible; thus, some of the variations in the number of IDPs and returnees could be attributed to inability to obtain the most updated information.

• As of 30 April 2024, DTM identified 4,871,916 individual returnees (811,986 households).
• Increase of 8,844 individual returnees since previous round (+0.2%).
• The percentage increase in returnee individuals was smaller this round compared to the previous one (0.2% versus 0.4%).

Nonetheless, the highest increase was observed in Salah al-Din Governorate (4,308 individuals) and Ninewa Governorate (3,306 individuals).
