During the reporting period (12 to 18 April 2023), a total of 57 movements were recorded - 27 arrivals (1,285 individuals), 26 departures (2,106 individuals), and 4 returns (31 individuals). The largest arrival movements were recorded in Mocimboa Da Praia (608 individuals), Muidumbe (431 individuals) and Palma (101 individuals). The largest departure movements were recorded in Montepuez (1,163 individuals), Macomia (297 individuals), Nangade (253 individuals) and Cidade de Pemba (249 individuals). The largest return movement was recorded within Quissanga (17 individuals). Only 20 of the mobile groups were displaced for the first time, 61 per cent for a second time and 19 per cent were displaced at least three times.

From December 2022 to February 2023, IOM Tajikistan assessed 859 villages across 12 districts with 1,875 key informant interviews (20% women) for its baseline assessment and conducted 979 surveys (12% women) with returning migrant workers in the country.

Three groups of populations were targeted in the baseline assessment: international migrant workers, returning migrant workers and emigrants. In the timeframe 2020-2022, IOM Tajikistan found 123,194 return migrant workers, 3,111 international migrant workers and 251,180 Tajiks were out as emigrants at the time of baseline assessment. Top three countries that migrant workers returned from were the Russian Federation (97%), Kazakhstan (2%), and Ukraine (0.4%).

Vahdat and Rudaki districts in the Districts of Central Subordination (DCS), Kulob city in Khatlon region and Sino district in Dushanbe city hosted the largest number of returning migrant workers respectively. An increase of 21 per cent was observed in 2021 compared to 2020 and another increase of 12 per cent in returns was observed in 2022 compared to 2021.

The third section Source Matelas, located in the municipality of Cabaret (West district) has faced attacks of armed individuals as of 19 April 2023. In addition to loss of life (including the drowning of persons who were fleeing by boat), burning and looting of houses, these attacks have also caused the displacement of approximatively 3,740 individuals (1,076 households) who mainly took refuge in three municipalities : Arcahaie in the West district (88% of displaced persons took refuge in locations of this municipality), Saint-Marc in Artibonite district (9%) and Cabaret (3%). Most of displaced persons are hosted in host communities (93%) while the remaining 7 per cent are hosted in 8 spontaneous sites located in the third section des Vases, in the municipality of Arcahaie.

Since July 2022, Papua New Guinea's Highlands region has been witnessing multiple incidents of election-related violence, causing a slew of negative consequences, including loss of human lives, destruction of property, and population displacement. In this context, women and girls have become more vulnerable to Gender-based Violence (GBV), and a number of communities have reported incidents of GBV following the displacement.

Co-led by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the National Disaster Centre (NDC), the Camp Coordination and Camp Management, Shelter and Non-Food Items cluster deployed the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) rapid assessment tool (October - November 2022) with the support of local authorities and partners and collected data on the situation of persons displaced by election-related violence in Hela, Southern Highlands, Jiwaka and Eastern Highlands provinces.
