About Uganda
In view of the political and conflict situation in neighboring countries of South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), there has been an increasing number of people moving into Uganda. In response to the need for timely and accurate information on the movements and needs of the displaced population, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Uganda began implementing the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) in March 2018. The DTM activities conducted in Uganda include Flow Monitoring Registry (FMR) and Flow Monitoring Surveys (FMS), which aim at providing disaggregated data on the movements volume and trends as well as qualitative information on individuals’ educational and vocational backgrounds of travelers, their intended destinations, the routes taken, and the challenges faced along the way. IOM Uganda is currently monitoring population flows at twenty-one points of entry (POE), fifteen on the Ugandan border with DRC and six along the border with South Sudan. The data collected is shared with relevant governmental stakeholders and other humanitarian partners to develop adequate interventions and provide the necessary assistance.

Over the reporting period, a total of 145,900 movements were observed at fifteen (15) Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) at the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Over the reporting period, a total of 33,667 individual movements were observed at six (6) Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) at the Ugandan (UGA) border with South Sudan (SSD).
Over the reporting period, a total of 124,156 movements were observed at eight (8) Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) at the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Over the reporting period, a total of 31,089 individual movements were observed at six (6) Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) at the Ugandan (UGA) border with South Sudan (SSD). 71 per cent of population movements reported the duration of stay within a day to a week in the intended destination.
Over the reporting period, a total of 107,706 movements were observed at eight (8) Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) at the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The incoming population into Uganda continued to be higher (70%) than outgoing to DRC (30%).
Over the reporting period, a total of 41,460 individual movements were observed at six (6) Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) at the Ugandan (UGA) border with South Sudan (SSD).
Over the reporting period, a total of 97,600 movements were observed at eight (8) Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) at the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The incoming population into Uganda continued to be higher (65%) than outgoing to DRC (35%).
Over the reporting period a total of 17,009 individual movements were observed at six (6) flow monitoring points at the border with the Republic of South Sudan (SSD).
Over the reporting period a total of 34,793 movements were observed at nine (9) flow monitoring points at the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The increase in flows registered through the DTM is due to the opening of new FMPs in Goli, Madepo, and Butogota in January.
Over the reporting period a total of 18,391 movements were observed at six (6) flow monitoring points at the border with the Democractic Republic of Congo (DRC). Inflows into Uganda were slightly higher (56%) than outflows to DRC (44%).

December was characterized by disaster triggers which included floods, drought/famine, landslides/mudslides, heavy storms/hailstorms and transport related hazards.
DTM Global Survey 2023
The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Global Survey 2023 is an annual stocktaking exercise which aims to present IOM DTM's operations and activities transparently. The Global Survey focuses on operations active from January 1 to December 31, 2023, with data collection occurring from February to April 2024.
