Site Assessment

Detention Centre Profiling is a component of IOM Libya’s Displacement Matrix programme. It is a data-oriented tool that routinely provides specific sex and age demographic data and key sectorial information on individuals held in Libya’s detention Centres on the date of assessment.

Ce rapport fournit un aperçu des déplacements et des besoins humanitaires multisectoriels dans les localités d’accueil des personnes déplacées internes (PDI) et / ou retournées. Les résultats ont été obtenus après la conduite du dix-neuvième cycle de suivi des déplacements (round 19) réalisé entre le 01er août et le 08 septembre 2023 par l’Organisation Internationale pour les Migrations (OIM) grâce au soutien du Bureau pour l’Assistance Humanitaire (en anglais, Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, BHA), la Direction Générale de la Protection Civile et des Opérations d’Aide Humanitaire Européennes (DG ECHO) et le Fonds Humanitaire (FH). L’évaluation a couvert 4 2241 localités d’accueil des PDI et / ou retournés et 79 sites de déplacement identifiés préalablement avec les autorités locales. Les données ont été collectées au moyen de deux questionnaires structurés multisectoriels (un déployé au niveau des localités et un déployé au niveau des sites) auprès d’informateurs clés incluant des représentants de déplacés, les leaders communautaires et des gestionnaires de sites. L’évaluation a couvert les 16 préfectures du pays et la ville de Bangui.

To gain a better understanding of the presence of migrants, IOM initiated mobility tracking activities in provinces along Thailand’s border with Myanmar. Mobility tracking is designed to estimate the number of people living in communities in border provinces, including the number of non-Thai individuals, predominantly Myanmar nationals, who arrived postmilitary takeover. The activity provides critical baseline information regarding the locations and volume of Myanmar nationals in Thailand, allowing for better targeted programming and response. Mobility tracking is conducted by interviewing key informants over the phone or in-person. Key informants are usually officially recognized village leaders or similar authority figures who provide information on the demographics of their respective communities. IOM conducts this activity on a regular basis, aiming for bi-monthly updates, to maintain upto-date data on migrant presence in assessed communities. This report provides a snapshot as of August 2023. Highlighted districts in the map to the left represent areas in which IOM has collected data. Sometimes coverage is only partial. Across 641 assessed locations in 115 sub-districts and 44 districts, there are an estimated 263,000 non-Thai individuals. For reference, the overall estimated population in the assessed locations is 920,000 individuals. A quarter of the non-Thai population (60,000 individuals) are reported to have arrived since the military takeover in Myanmar. The three districts with the highest presence of non-Thai individuals identified are Mae Sot (74,000 ind.) in Tak province as well as Mueang Ranong (57,000 ind.) and Kra Buri (20,000 ind.), both in Ranong province.

This report constitutes a complementary analysis to the quantitative reports already published by DTM as part of the fourth phase of site and neighborhood assessments in the MAPAP: Information sheet on the displacement situation in the West Department, Detailed mapping of the displacement situation in the MAPAP.

The quantitative results from Round 4 have demonstrated a trend of IDPs leaving host families to settle in sites. While the total number of IDPs in the MAPAP has not significantly increased since the end of 2022 (see Map 1 and Graph 1 below), their places of accommodation have varied significantly (Graph 2). By the end of 2022, only 25 percent of IDPs were settled in sites, whereas by June 2023, this percentage had risen to 45 percent, with nearly half of the IDPs now settled in sites (Graph 2). Given that the number of IDPs has not increased significantly, these results indicate that the same IDPs previously hosted by families are moving to settle in sites where living conditions are extremely precarious, and people are exposed to higher protection risks.

This report aims to deepen the understanding of this trend through testimonies from IDPs obtained through open interviews.

This report presents a summary of the analysis of energy-related data based on the Mobility Tracking Round 11 of the DTM Multi-Sectoral Location Assessment (MLSA) in South Sudan. The assessment had the novelty of including energy access-related questions, following the structure of the newly introduced DTM Energy Module.
