A fire broke out in Shuwari and Fulatari camps in Dikwa Local Government Area (LGA), Borno state, on 20 February 2023, the fire outbreak affected 165 people living in 39 houses and damaged 34  shelters. The affected people included 57 children, 62 women and 46 men. Most of the affected people lost their personal belongings to the fire, including biometric cards and food ration cards. No injuries or fatalities were reported, the cause of the fire was unknown. The fire victims were living with their neighbours in the same camp while working to rebuild their shelters.

On 23 and 24 June 2023, heavy rainfall struck GGSS,  camp in Mafa LGA, and Doro camp in MMC of Borno State, affecting a total of 1,029 individuals from 190 households. The incidents damaged 149 shelters and 22 latrines.


In response to these events, the DTM (Displacement Tracking Matrix) field team swiftly conducted evaluations to inform the humanitarian community, the government, and partners and to facilitate a targeted response. The field team utilized direct observation and key informant interviews in flash reports to collect representative data and determine the quantity and immediate needs of the affected groups.

On 1st of May, windstorms struck the Transit Camp of the Pulka Bokko Ward in Gwoza LGA of Borno State. The windstorms affected a total of 504 individuals from 136 households. The windstorms also damaged six transit shelters, one communal shelter, and two brick/block latrines were damaged.


Following these events, DTM (Displacement Tracking Matrix) field staff conducted rapid assessments to inform the humanitarian community and Government/partners, and to enable a targeted response. Flash reports utilise direct observation and a broad network of key informants to gather representative data and collect information on the number, profile, and immediate needs of affected populations.

Heavy rainfall hit Low Cost, Unity, Abori Gate, and Central Primary School camps in Damboa LGA of Borno State on May 17, 2023. A total of 2,135 individuals from 795 households were affected by the rain. Two hundred and sixty-two shelters and five latrines were damaged by the heavy rainfall.


Following these events, the DTM (Displacement Tracking Matrix) field team conducted swift evaluations to inform the humanitarian community, the government, and partners and to enable a targeted response. Flash reports involve direct observation and key informant interviews to gather representative data and discover the quantity and immediate needs of affected groups.

On 19 May 2023, heavy rainfall struck Low Cost, Unity, and NRC camps in Damboa and Kaga LGAs of Borno State, affecting a total of 272 individuals from 87 households. The heavy rainfall damaged 70 shelters and 12 latrines.

On  15 and 18 November 2023, a fire broke out in Muna el Badawy and Dalori camps of Jere and Konduga Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Borno State, which destroyed the shelters and possessions of many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Many personal items have been lost in the fire, including food ration cards and biometric identification cards. There were no reported injuries or fatalities.


The fire destroyed 350 block/brick shelters and 1,567 makeshift shelters affecting 9,600 individuals in 1,917 households. The affected individuals included 1,827 children, 2,361 women, and 1,573 men.

On  7 and 8 November 2023 a fire started in Veterinary camp and Masarmari camp of Monguno and Dikwa Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Borno State, causing damage to and destroying the shelters and possessions of many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Many personal items were lost in the fire, including food ration cards and biometric identification cards. There were no reported injuries or fatalities.

The fire incident destroyed 67 emergency shelters and 44 makeshift shelters affecting 313 individuals in 59 households. The affected individuals included 195 children, 79 women, and 39 men.

  • Displacement trends between 23–29 October 2024 show a spike at 1,008 individuals on 27 October, indicating intensified movement due to increased attacks and fear of violence.
