IOM Pakistan’s Weekly Situation Report on the Return of Undocumented Afghans through the Torkham border, reporting period [9th - 15th April 2017].
- During the week of 9th - 15th April 2017, a total of 5,534 undocumented Afghans returned from Pakistan through the Torkham border, a 39 % increase in the return caseload compare with the previous reporting period, bringing the total undocumented Afghan returning to Afghanistan from Pakistan since the beginning of the year to 18,932 individuals
- Movement trends for the reporting period indicate:
- This reporting period, 39% of the total undocumented returnees were under 18 and 4% were above 60.
- Geographically the top destinations for returns are: 60% to Nangarhar, 17% to Kabul and 7% to Kunar. Nangarhar consistently garners the largest percentage of returnees since the beginning.
- Movement trends shows similar return densities with the previous reporting period while the population flow continues to indicate further movement towards Northern provinces in Afghanistan including Balkh, Samangan, Baghlan, Takhar and Kunduz.
- During the reporting period 5% vulnerable cases were reported out of which 40% were elderly members, 28% Female headed household and 15% physically disabled.
- The top Push Factor for this reporting period is Lack of Documentation at 85% while the top Pull Factor cited is Returning to Own Country at 90%.
- Income opportunities, Lack of Shelter and Education are the most citied foreseen challenge upon return upon return (at 93% each).
