IOM Pakistan’s Weekly Situation Report on the Return of Undocumented Afghans through the Torkham border, reporting period [2nd - 8th April 2017].
- During the week of 2nd - 8th April 2017, a total of 3955 (660 families) undocumented Afghans returned from Pakistan through the Torkham border, a 25 % increase in the return caseload compare with the previous reporting period.
- Movement trends for the reporting period indicate:
- Of the total, 48% individuals returned from district Peshawar and 8% returned from Khyber Agency in FATA.
- Approximately 65% individuals intended to return to Nangrahar, 18% to Kabul in Afghanistan and 4% to Kunar.
- Movement trends shows similar return densities with previous reporting period however compared to previous weeks population flow now indicates movement towards the further provinces in Afghanistan including Balkh, Samangan, Baghlan, Takhar and Kunduz.
- Overall 25% vulnerable cases were reported out of which 25% were female headed households, 11% physically disabled and 1% unaccompanied minors.
- Similar to the trend last week, there is a further decrease (6% less than the previous reporting period) in the proportion of respondents citing “Afraid of being deported” as a push factor – this can be attributed to the Government of Pakistan’s announcement on their intention to document the previously unregistered Afghans.
