Pakistan — Flow Monitoring of Undocumented Afghan Returnees from Pakistan (15—21 April 2018)

In the period between 15—21 April 2018, 458 Undocumented Afghan individuals returned to Afghanistan through the Chaman/Spin Boldak border crossing whilst 361 individuals used the Torkham border crossing, bringing the total number of returns this week to 819 (157 families). Theis represents an approximate 15% decrease in the total number of returns as compared to last week. The total number of Undocumented Afghans that returned spontaneously to Afghanistan since 1st January 2018 through Torkham and Chaman now stands at 9,097 (excluding deportations). Out of the total number of returns during the present reporting period, 45% returnees were male whereas 55% were female. The top 5 destination provinces for returns are: Kandahar (25%), Kabul (21%), Nangarhar (18%), Kunduz (12%) and Paktia (4%). The largest proportion of returns is from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (38.3%), followed by Balochistan (29.2%), Punjab (14.9%) and FATA (1.8%). The primary reasons for returning were the wish to return home, economic factors, and the fear of being deported.
