A fire broke out on 12 January 2023, at the International Secondary School Camp in the Ngala Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State, causing damage to and destroying the shelters and possessions of many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Many personal items were lost in the fire, including food ration cards and biometric identification cards. There were no reported injuries or fatalities.
The fire incident destroyed 39 emergency shelters, 49 block/brick shelters and 30 self-made/makeshift shelters affecting 517 individuals in 118 households. The affected individuals included 324 children, 118 women and 75 men.
The victims of the fire outbreak currently reside with neighbours in the exact location while they attempt to rebuild their shelters. They are in desperate need of shelter and shelter repair kits. Other needs include NFIs (non-food items) and food.
At the time of reporting, no assistance has been rendered to the affected population.
