Nigeria — Camp Closure Flash Report — Gubio Camp, Borno State (22 December 2022)

As part of the IDP relocation programme issued by the Borno State Government (BSG), the 400 Housing Estate Camp (or Gubio Camp), located in the Ward Auno Chabbol of Konduga LGA, was closed between December 1, 2022, and December 10, 2022.

Following this event, a rapid movement intention survey was conducted by DTM (Displacement Tracking Matrix) field staff to
identify the destinations of the 19,910 IDPs (4,471 households) residing in Gubio Camp and to inform the humanitarian community.

According to DTM round 42 (June, 2022), the total number of IDPs residing in Gubio camp was 22,849, but during the movement intention survey, the team was able to capture 19,910 individuals and their intended destination LGAs. About 2,939 individuals, upon receiving the news of the planned camp's closure, had left before the team arrived for the survey.

Meanwhile, DTM’s emergency tracking is ongoing at locations of arrival, and at the time of reporting, more than 8,195 individuals had been tracked at their locations of arrival in the LGAs of Gubio, Ngala, Kaga, and Gwoza. The locations receiving the movement include camps, camp-like settings, and host communities.

Following the closure of the camp, 4,498 individuals (23%) are expected to arrive in Kukawa LGA, 3,452 individuals (17%) in Bama LGA, 3,072 individuals (15%) in Marte LGA, 2,840 individuals (14) in Ngala LGA, 2,560 individuals (13%) in Kalabalge LGA, 1,210 individuals (6% in Abadam LGA), 207 individuals (1% in Konduga), and 50 individuals (1% in Gubio LGA.
