This report presents the results of a round carried out by IOM field staff in Italy (Central Mediterranean route) and Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo*, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (Eastern Mediterranean route) from February to September 2017. 77% of all migrants answered “yes” to at least one of the four human trafficking and other exploitative practices indicators based on their own direct experience; 79% of all respondents in 2017 reported of having experienced physical violence of any sort during their journey; Events captured by the four indicators of individual experiences included in the survey are reported to take place mostly in Libya (92% of all cases), with a small number of events reported to have taken place also in Algeria (2.8%), Sudan (1.3%), Turkey (0.8%) and other West and Northern African countries.
