Between 1 May and 31 July 2021, DTM Ethiopia surveyed a total of 2,680 migrants across 5 Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs). These FMPs are located in Metema, Galafi, Moyale, Dawale and Tog Wochale. During this period, a total of 62,684 movements were also observed through the Flow Monitoring Registry.
The majority of movements were motivated by economic reasons (66.7%), followed by marriage, family reunification or family formation (10.8%). Of those that reported an intended final destination, the highest proportion reported planning to travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (38.5%), and the most reported reason for choosing a final destination country was job opportunities (48.4%) followed by returning to their home countries (12.6%).
