The cross-border movement of Haitian nationals is recurrent, and this movement is represented by border residents in Haitian towns. During the period of analysis, the security measures applied by the Dominican Republic government have been more restrictive to the passage of Haitian nationals on non-market days; however, the mobility of people continues due to the exchange of goods and market supply.

At the border level, in the four main border cities of Dajabón, Jimaní, Elías Piña and Pedernales, there have been personnel changes which have implied new security measures for border crossings.

From a political point of view, fewer and fewer Haitian wholesalers and retailers are crossing the border to carry out some commercial exchange, which has resulted in a significant decrease of movements. Finally, the flows represented in this study correspond to days when there is no exchange of goods, that is, when there is no active commercial activity.
