DTM Libya identified a total of 635,051 migrants from over 44 nationalities in the 100 Libyan municipalities during Round 40 of data collection (December 2021 – January 2022). The data collected by DTM Libya shows that the number of migrants in Libya has continued to increase slightly compared to the previous reporting period (621,007 migrants in Round 39, October-November 2021) following a trend which started at the beginning of 2021. However, the number of migrants in Libya in December 2021 – January 2022 still remains lower than for the corresponding period in 2019 (653,800 migrants Round 29, Jan-Feb 2020).

Tropical Storm Gombe made landfall as a Category 3 Tropical Cyclone on Friday, March 11 at 00:00 GMT on the coast between Mossuril and Mogincual districts (Nampula Province). Further reports of damages have been recorded in Nampula and Zambizia provinces. Situational overviews across affected provinces report at least 400,175 individuals affected, 82 people injured, 20 people killed as well infrastructure damages to 301 schools, 691 classrooms and 16 health centres (INGD, 15 March). Through an existing network of enumerators on ground, IOM, in close coordination with INGD, has been providing logistical and technical support in rapid assessments within the first 72 hours of Tropical Storm Gombe landfall.
Within these assessments, a total of 56 Accommodation Centres have been assessed in order to provide a preliminary snapshot of displaced populations in Nampula and Zambezia provinces. Joint multi-sectoral assessments, lead by INGD and OCHA, are still ongoing with focus on understanding the extent of damages to houses and facilities across all affected sectors and localities in Nampula and Zambezia Provinces.

Following an attack which occurred on 17 February 2022 in the village of Kimé (sous-prefecture of Ngouboua) by non-state armed groups, 50 households of 200 individuals displaced for the first time, left the villages of Kimé and Kairom situated in the sous-prefecture of Ngouboua (department of Kaya) and transited through multiple locations before arriving on 5 March 2022 in the newly established Boudoutouba site (in the sous-prefecture of Bagasola, department of Kaya).
A better understanding of migratory movements in West and Central Africa is critical to support the programmes and decision-making of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Since 2016, IOM collects data at strategic transit points throughout the region to monitor the various intra and interregional movements and migrations trends. This document presents key results from interviews conducted with female travellers in 2021 along migration routes in West and Central Africa.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, IOM's Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), monitors cross-border movements to and from Nigeria's Borno State in north-east Nigeria. Assessments are conducted at Points of Entry located along the border with Cameroon.
During the period 05 - 11 March 2022, 155 movements were observed at three Points of Entry in Borno state. Of the total movements recorded, 82 were incoming movements. The incoming movements included 76 persons from the Far North Region in Cameroon, one person from N’djamena in the Republic of Chad and 5 persons from Bol in the Republic of Chad. Additonally, a total of 73 outgoing movements were recorded from Borno State towards the Far North Region of Cameroon.
A range of data was collected during the assessments to better inform on travellers’ nationalities, sex, reasons for moving, mode of transportation and timeline of movement as shown in figures 1 to 4 below:
