Between 25 and 31 December 2023, a total of 915 new arrivals were recorded at locations in Adamawa and Borno states. The new arrivals were recorded at locations in Askira/Uba, Bama, Chibok, Dikwa, Gwoza, Kala Balge, Monguno and Ngala Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the most conflict-affected Borno State and in Demsa, Fufore, Girei, Gombi, Hong, Lamurde, Madagali, Maiha, Mayo-Belwa, Michika, Mubi North, Numan, Song, Yola North and Yola South LGAs of Adamawa State.
ETT assessments identified the following movement triggers: poor living conditions (408 individuals or 45%), family re-unification (139 individuals or 15%), access to humanitarian support (101 individuals or 11%), improved security (82 individuals or 9%), insurgency (68 individuals or 7%), military operations (59 individuals or 6%) and seasonal farming (58 individuals or 6%).

Between 18 and 24 December 2023, a total of 1,336 new arrivals were recorded at locations in Adamawa and Borno states. The new arrivals were recorded at locations in Askira/Uba, Bama, Dikwa, Gwoza, Hawul, Kaga, Kala Balge, Mafa and Monguno Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the most conflict-affected Borno State and in Fufore, Girei, Gombi, Hong, Madagali, Maiha, Mayo-Belwa, Michika, Mubi North, Mubi South, Song, Yola North and Yola South LGAs of Adamawa State.
ETT assessments identified the following movement triggers: poor living conditions (645 individuals or 48%), improved security (160 individuals or 12%), family re-unification (159 individuals or 12%), access to humanitarian support (111 individuals or 8%), attack (91 individuals or 7%), military operations (82 individuals or 6%), fear of attack (62 individuals or 5%) and seasonal farming (26 individuals or 2%).

On 22 January 2024, fires broke out in Flutari, Gana Ali, and Water Board camps in Monguno Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State, which destroyed the shelters and possessions of many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Many personal items were lost in the fire, including food ration cards and biometric identification cards. There were no reported injuries or fatalities.
The fire destroyed 73 makeshift shelters affecting 287 individuals in 68 households. The affected individuals included 131 children, 88 women and 68 men.
The victims need shelter and shelter repair kits, other needs include food and NFIs (non-food items).
No assistance has been rendered to the affected population at the time of reporting.

Since October 8 there has been an increase in cross-border incidents between Israel and Lebanon, resulting in the displacement of people both within the South and elsewhere within the country. Since October 10, the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) has been conducting the daily monitoring of population movements. The objective of the exercise is to inform preparedness and response planning.

- DTM Sudan estimates that 6,069,193 (1,208,246 Households) were recently internally displaced.
- The IDP caseload was observed in 6,482 locations across all of Sudan’s 18 states.
- The highest proportions of IDPs were observed across South Darfur (12%), River Nile (11%), East Darfur (11%), White Nile (8%), North Darfur (8%), and Aj Jazirah (7%).
- Field teams reported that the IDPs observed were originally displaced from twelve states. The majority (3,512,503 IDPs, 58%) were reportedly displaced from Khartoum state; followed by South Darfur (15%), North Darfur (8%), Aj Jazirah (8%), Central Darfur (4%), West Darfur (3%), East Darfur (1%), South Kordofan (1%), North Kordofan (1%), West Kordofan (<1%), Sennar (<1%), and White Nile (<1%).
- IOM-DTM also reported that an estimated 1,703,560 mixed cross-border movements were made into neighbouring countries.

The early warning and monitoring tool on the situation in the Gulf of Guinea coastal countries (Ghana, Benin, Togo and Côte d'Ivoire), as of 31 July 2022, developed by the GRANIT under the direction of OCHA, IOM and REACH, monitors, based on data and analysis provided by humanitarian and development partners, trends relative to key indicators relating to the situation in the four coastal countries, as of 30 November 2023.

In December 2023, 29,636 migratory movements were observed at flow monitoring points (FMP) in Djibouti, with a daily average of 956 migratory movements. Migration flows observed across all FMPs increased slightly by 29 per cent compared to November 2023 during which 22,968 movements were recorded.
Of these 29,636 movements, 8,216 (28%) were observed in the Obock region where migrants cross the Gulf of Aden towards the Arabian Peninsula. Migration flows to the Obock FMP saw an increase of 69 per cent compared to November 2023. This increase could be due to a reduction in border controls with Ethiopia combined with rumors of resumption of boat departures from starting from the coasts of Obock where migrants are used to crossing the Gulf of Aden to reach the Arabian Peninsula.
Between January and December 2023, arrivals from Ethiopia reached (122,968) marking a significant increase of 20 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year (101,656). Migratory movements in November were mainly directed: towards the Arabian Peninsula (48%), inbound (43%), transiting towards Ethiopia (4%), transiting within Djibouti (4%), and outgoing (1%). Spontaneous returns from Yemen fell by 43 per cent due to high tides in the sea, from 505 in November to 286 in December, including 14 women (5%).

As the September to December (SOND) rainfall season winds down, extreme weather events, specifically floods, landslides, hailstorms, and heavy winds have led to significant devastation in the affected districts. The disasters have adversely impacted 7,052 individuals, comprising 1,618 households, with 1,859 individuals from 412 households being internally displaced.
Demographically, adults (19-64 years) constitute the majority of the affected population at 61%, followed by children under 19 years at 30%, and the elderly above 64 years at 9%. The primary needs identified in the aftermath of these disasters include shelter, child protection and general protection.
The damage assessment revealed that 233 houses have been partially damaged, while 46 houses have been completely destroyed. Additionally, 71 water facilities and 9 schools have suffered adverse effects.
