The DTM Emergency Tracking Tool (ETT) is deployed to track and to collect information on large and sudden population movements, provide frequent updates on the scale of displacement and quantify the affected population when needed. As a sub-component of the Mobility Tracking methodology in Nigeria, ETT utilizes direct observations and a broad network of key informants to capture the best estimates of the affected population per location, enabling targeted humanitarian response planning.

Between 15 and 21 May 2023, a total of 2,414 new arrivals were recorded in locations in Adamawa and Borno states. The new arrivals were recorded at locations in Askira/Uba, Bama, Gwoza, Kala Balge*, Ngala and Monguno Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the most conflict-affected State of Borno and in Fufore, Gombi, Hong, Lamurde, Maiha, Michika, Mubi South, Song, Yola North and Yola South LGAs of Adamawa State.

There are 358,620 individuals currently displaced by drought in Gedo region. Since round 62 an estimated 3,784 IDPs arrived at the assessed settlements.

There are 355,360 individuals currently displaced by drought in Gedo region. Since round 61 an estimated 3,723 IDPs arrived at the assessed settlements.

There are 351,698 individuals currently displaced by drought in Gedo region. Since round 60 an estimated 4,122 IDPs arrived at the assessed settlements.

There are 347,679 individuals currently displaced by drought in Gedo region. Since round 59 an estimated 4,985 IDPs arrived at the assessed settlements.

Since 24 February 2022, refugees from Ukraine and Third Country Nationals (TCNs) have been fleeing to neighbouring countries as a result of the war. As of May 2023, more than eight million refugees from Ukraine were recorded across Europe. At the same time, almost 13 million of border crossings of border crossings of Ukrainian and Third-Country refugees and migrants were reported from Ukraine into the neighbouring countries since February 2022. IOM has deployed its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) tool in mid-April 2022 to collect individual surveys in neighbouring countries with persons crossing into Ukraine, with the aim to improve the understanding of main profiles, displacement patterns, intentions and needs of those moving into Ukraine. This report is based on surveys collected in Slovakia between 15 February and 31 March 2023 in various locations, in Bratislava, Kosice and Presov regions., as well as in various settings, including transit points (e.g., train and bus stations) and border crossing points in Vysne Nemecke and Ubla

IOM Pakistan collects data on the outflows of undocumented Afghan migrants at the Torkham and Chaman border crossing points in an effort to better understand the migration movements of undocumented Afghan migrants returning to Afghanistan from Pakistan.

Between 7 May and 20 May 2023, 5,275 undocumented Afghan nationals spontaneously returned to Afghanistan, including 1,472 through the Torkham border point and 3,803 through the Chaman border point. Border authorities facilitated the return of 76 individuals due to the lack of legal documentation to remain in Pakistan. Therefore, information about these individuals are not included in the count. Although IOM identified 29,038 undocumented Afghan returnees (between 1 January - 20 May 2023) at two border crossings, this may not reflect the total number of undocumented Afghan returnees. Moreover, for this study, only the head of household or representative of the family were interviewed. This means that the number of interviews conducted by the enumerators is lower than the number of returnees recorded by IOM. Between 07 April and 20 May 2023, IOM interviewed 252 respondents.

The Horn of Africa and Yemen is one of the busiest and riskiest migration corridors in the world travelled by hundreds of thousands of migrants, the majority of whom travel in an irregular manner, often relying on smugglers to facilitate movement along the Eastern Route. This regional report provides monthly updates on the complex migratory dynamics through Djibouti, Somalia, Yemen and Ethiopia based on diverse data sources and consultations with key informants in the four countries. Moreover, it provides information on the main protection concerns for migrants along the journey, information on the spillover effects of the conflict in Northern Ethiopia observed at the border between Ethiopia, Kenya and Sudan, a specific focus on children and information on the returns from Saudi Arabia to Ethiopia, Somalia and Yemen.
