The objective of the Emergency Tracking Tool (ETT) is to collect information on large and sudden population movements as well as on security and climate emergencies. Information is collected through key informant interviews or direct observation. This dashboard provides information on the intercommunal conflicts that occurred in the rural sous-préfectures of Kouka Margné, Bithotchi Mangalmé and Eref. The conflicts resulted in over one hundred deaths and 80 injuries. However, no movement of individuals has been reported.
Since early August 2023, tensions have arisen between farmers and transhumant herders in the department of Mangalmé over the use of transhumance corridors. Despite efforts from local administrative authorities to address tensions, a clash erupted on 20 August 2023 between transhumant herders and communities in the rural sous-préfectures of Kouka Margné, Bithotchi Mangalmé and Eref (situated in Mangalmé department). The clash resulted in the death of 116 individuals and 80 injuries. In light of this critical situation, which continues to cause material and human losses, there are ongoing discussions at the local level to find a sustainable solution and minimize the occurrence of this type of incident.
