About Nigeria

The escalation of violence between all parties in north-eastern Nigeria since 2014 has resulted in mass displacement and deprivation in the states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe. To better understand the scope of displacement and assess the needs of affected populations, IOM has been implementing its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) programme starting July 2014, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs). The activities of the DTM project, which consist of conducting baseline assessments and registration for IDPs living in camps and host communities, are currently being carried out in Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe.

The information collected will contribute to the provision of a comprehensive profile of the IDP population in Nigeria which will be shared with all relevant stakeholders and will contribute towards enabling the government of Nigeria and humanitarian partners identify the needs of Nigeria's displaced population and develop interventions for providing IDPs necessary assistance.

On 28 May, armed bandits reportedly attacked the communities of Gidan Goga in Gidan Goga ward of Maradun LGA and Yar-Nasarawa in Dansadau ward of Maru LGA in Zamfara State.

Nigeria — Flood and Heavy Rainfall Flash Report Borno State (30 May 2023)

On 27 and 28 May 2023, heavy rainfall /windstorm struck GSSSS, Banki camps  in Bama LGA, and Kiva host community in Gwoza LGA of Borno State, affecting a total of 800 individuals from 161 households. The incidents damaged 96 shelters and 42 latrines.

Nigeria — North-central & North-west Flash Report 145 (15 - 21 May 2023)

On 16 and 21 May, violent clashes erupted between herders and farmers in the communities of Uchen and Anune in Modern Market ward of Makurdi LGA and the community of Iye in Uvir ward of Guma LGA in Benue State.

Nigeria — Heavy Rainfall Flash Report Borno State (23 May 2023)

On 19 May 2023, heavy rainfall struck Low Cost, Unity, and NRC camps in Damboa and Kaga LGAs of Borno State, affecting a total of 272 individuals from 87 households. The heavy rainfall damaged 70 shelters and 12 latrines.

As a component of the IOM's Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), the Transhumance Tracking Tools supported by a network of community key informants, collected information on events relating to herders and farmers conflicts.

Nigeria — Flood and Heavy Rainfall Flash Report Borno State (18 May 2023)

Heavy rainfall hit Low Cost, Unity, Abori Gate, and Central Primary School camps in Damboa LGA of Borno State on May 17, 2023. A total of 2,135 individuals from 795 households were affected by the rain.

Nigeria — Windstorm Flash Report Borno State (18 May 2023)

On 16 May, windstorms struck GSSSS Camp and Banki Camp in Bama LGA of Borno State. The windstorms affected a total of 619 individuals from 133 households. The windstorms also damaged 78 shelters and five brick/block latrines.

Nigeria — Windstorm Flash Report Kala/Balge LGA, Borno State (9 May 2023)

On the 2nd of May, windstorms struck Boarding Primary School Camp (Transit Camp) in Kala/balge LGA of Borno State. The windstorms affected a total of 194 individuals from 73 households. The windstorms also damaged 20 shelters and five brick/block latrines.

Nigeria — North-central & North-west Flash Report 144 (8 - 9 May 2023)

Between 8 and 9 May, clashes between herders and farmers were reported in the communities of Imande Lortim and Tse Vambe in the Nzorov ward and the community of Tse-Gyer in the Mbabai ward of Guma LGA in Benue State.

IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) provides support to the Government and humanitarian partners by establishing a comprehensive system that collects, analyses and disseminates data on IDPs and returnees to ensure timely and effective assistance to the affected populations.

Nigeria — North-central & North-west Flash Report 143 (24 - 30 April 2023)

On 25 April, armed bandits reportedly attacked the community Yantumaki Town of Yantumaki ward A in Dan Musa local government area (LGA) of Katsina State. The attack affected 162 individuals and displaced 157 individuals to the community Dan Musa Town in Dan Musa ward A of Dan Musa LGA.

On 1st of May, windstorms struck the Transit Camp of the Pulka Bokko Ward in Gwoza LGA of Borno State. The windstorms affected a total of 504 individuals from 136 households.

Nigeria — Fire Outbreak Flash Report Monguno LGA, Borno State (27 April 2023)

On April 16 and 24, several fire outbreaks were reported in Water Board Camp in Monguno Local Government Area (LGA), Borno state. The fire outbreak affected a total of 232 individuals and destroyed 45 makeshift shelters. The affected individuals included 141 children, 46 women and 45 men.

Nigeria — Windstorm and Communal Clash Flash Report Bauchi State (26 April 2023)

On 21 and 23 of April, windstorms were reported in the communities Tsangaya and Kakuma of the Wards Miya West and Kubi East, both located in Ganjuwa LGA of Bauchi State. The windstorms affected a total of 890 individuals from 125 households.

On 17 April, clashes between herders and farmers were reported in the communities of Murish and Jwak Mai Tumbi in Kombun ward of Mangu LGA in Plateau State.

On 11 April, clashes between herders and farmers were reported in the communities of Tunga Tudu, Sakamaru, Buwade and Asara Arewa in Gigane ward of Gwadabawa LGA in Sokoto State.
