The Registered IDP Area Baseline Assessment provides granular data on the number and geographic location of officially registered internally displaced people (IDPs). This report assesses registered IDP presence at the raion level, also mapping the recorded change since the previous round. Round 25 presents the data of the registered IDP population disaggregated by sex, age and state-recognized disability status.

The data collected for the Area Baseline Assessment Round 25 reflects the up-to-date local administrative register of the IDP population as of 30 June 2023, equivalent to a total of 3,650,338 registered IDPs. Registered IDP figures were collected for 1,039 hromadas (78% of all  hromadas covered in Ukrainian government-controlled areas). Data disaggregated by age, sex and disability status were provided for around 76 per cent of the administrative units covered.

DTM Sudan estimates that, since 15 April 2023, approximately 2,414,625 individuals (483,672 households) have been displaced internally as a result of the conflict. Notably, the current estimate for displacement in the previous 87 days is greater than that of recorded displacement during the previous four years. Furthermore, an estimated additional 737,801 individuals have crossed into neighbouring countries. Due to the ongoing nature of the fighting, many areas reportedly remain inaccessible to field teams. DTM estimates of displacement are based on preliminary reports from field teams and should be taken as estimations only. Additional reports of displacement are likely to emerge as the situation becomes clearer.

More than 2,100 migrants died in West Africa and on the region's overseas routes to Europe between 2014 and 2022, according to data from IOM's Missing Migrants Project (MMP). Moreover, the circumstances in which migrants disappear vary and it is sometimes difficult to establish the death with certainty. Indeed, it is also possible that the missing person is alive but does not have the possibility or the will to communicate with his family, because of detention or the fear of detention, for instance.

Issues of the dignity of families and of the dead therefore accompany the issues of strengthening the legal protection systems and material assistance for families. In the spirit of respect for International Law and Human Rights on the rights to life, liberty and security of the person, this study focuses on assessing and evaluating the needs of missing migrants and their families in Senegal.

The interviews of migrant families in this study were conducted in November 2022 among fifty-four families. The survey methodology consisted in the adoption of qualitative interviews based on semi-open questionnaires, which allowed the quantification of data a posteriori.
