Since April 2020, DTM Iraq has collected data and information relating to COVID-19 related movement restrictions and health measures being implemented across the country to curb the spread of the virus.

During this reporting period covering 20 October to 2 November 2020, DTM collected information on mobility restrictions within Iraq as well as at Points of Entry (PoEs). These restrictions include limitations on mobility across governorates as well as on commercial and trade activity, curfews, government and residency office operating hours, and legal regulations.

DTM Iraq collects data at border crossing points with neighboring countries to better understand movement restrictions and public health measures being implemented during the Coronavirus (Covid19) pandemic. Data featured within this report was collected on 18 August 2020 through face-to-face interviews with key informants (government and health employees) as well as direct observation at three border crossing points: Ibrahim Al-Khalil, bordering Turkey, Fishkhabour, bordering the Syrian Arab Republic and Bashmagh, bordering the Islamic Republic of Iran. This second report follows the first version which featured information collected on 5 July 2020. Changes in movement restrictions and health measures from the first round are detailed throughout this report.

In response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, Iraqi authorities have imposed mobility restrictions since March 2020 aimed at curbing the spread of the virus. These measures include restrictions on travel and limitations on freedom of movement, such as the closure of airports and points of entry (PoEs) along land borders and maritime boundaries, as well as domestic movement restrictions.

IOM Iraq’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) assessed 30 locations between 14-27 July 2020, of which 9 were reported as closed, 8 partially closed, 12 open only for commercial traffic, and 1 fully open. This report presents an overview of mobility restrictions for the 21 monitored PoEs which are fully open or partially open, as well as for Iraq in general.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Iraqi authorities have imposed mobility restrictions and public health measures in March 2020 aimed at curbing the spread of the pandemic. These measures include restrictions on travel and limitations on freedom of movement, such as the closure of airports and points of entry (PoEs) along land borders and maritime boundaries, as well as domestic movement restrictions. Moreover, different preventive healthcare measures have been implemented across the country, such as the distribution of public awareness materials, health screening processes and the establishment of handwashing stations at border points.

IOM Iraq’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) assessed 28 locations between 20 April and 4 May 2020, of which 13 were reported as closed, 7 partially closed, and 8 open only for commercial traffic. This report presents an overview of mobility restrictions and health measures for the 13 monitored PoE which have remained partially open, as well as for Iraq in general.
