Some regions of West and Central Africa (WCA) are faced with several layers of vulnerability resulting, among others, from weak state presence and capacity, limited access to basic services, struggling economies, slow-onset and rapid impacts of climate change, exponential demographic growth, rising urbanization, and general insecurity due to the presence of communal conflicts and the expansion of Non-State Armed Groups (NSAGs). In this context, weak governance systems and growing insecurity leave local populations to compete for dwindling natural resources, thereby placing further strain on social cohesion and undermining peaceful coexistence within and between communities. This is especially the case with respect to transhumance.

From 24 February to 31 December 2022, nearly 32,000 Ukrainians entered Albania, of which nearly 29,000 left the country. As of end
December 2022, about 2,500 Ukrainians who have fled the war in Ukraine were estimated to be present in Albania.1 Between 7
November and 31 December 2022, IOM conducted a Rapid Displacement and Needs assessment in Albania interviewing respondents in
seven locations: Durres, Saranda, Tirana, Vlora, Kavaja, Vora and Shkodra to gather more in-depth information on the profiles, intentions
and needs of Ukrainians present in Albania. This report presents the findings of a survey administered to 101 Ukrainian refugees between
22 November and 31 December 2022. Additionally, IOM conducted interviews with seven Key Informants (KIs) from the Albanian Red
Cross, the Ministry of Interior, Caritas, and two Ukrainian nationals residing in Albania, on the 7th and 8th of November 2022.

This report provides an overview of how the perceptions, needs and challenges related to COVID-19 have evolved among the migrant population in Thailand in 2022. Drawing on findings from three rounds of IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) COVID-19 Perception Surveys, it also traces how vaccine and booster uptake have increased throughout the year. The first round was conducted from late 2021 until early 2022, the second round in mid 2022, and the third round at the end of 2022. This report focuses mainly on the situation at the end of 2022 (Round 3), but also includes comparisons with Round 1 and Round 2. The Round 3 sample consists of 2,658 respondents, of whom 45 per cent identified as male, 55 per cent as female. Female respondents were more highly represented among Myanmar nationals (68%) compared to Cambodian nationals (46%).

To better understand health and screening capacities in Thailand, IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), with support from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is implementing Population Mobility Monitoring (PMM) along the Lao-Thai and Cambodia-Thai borders. Border provinces selected for data collection include Nong Khai (Lao-Thai) and Sa Kaeo and Chanthaburi (Cambodia-Thai). The following report focuses on Sa Kaeo. The participatory mapping exercise (Phase I) in Sa Kaeo took place in August 2022. IOM’s DTM team began by identifying GPS coordinates of various POEs and congregation points in the province and plotting these locations on a map. Three focus group discussions with key informants were then organized to identify which of the mapped POEs and congregation points are the most significant. Site observation (Phase II) was conducted in October 2022. A mixed method approach using both direct observation and key informant interviews was used to implement site observation. The following report is an overview of the site observation data with insights from key informant input. Estimates of flows at the identified POEs have been verified by a complimentary flow counting activity.

This report aims to provide an overview of the multi-sectoral conditions, needs and challenges among the Cambodian and Myanmar migrant population in Thailand as captured between August to October 2022 by IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix’s (DTM) multi-sectoral assessment of needs. The purpose of this assessment is to provide detailed multi and inter-sectoral analysis of the magnitude and severity of needs among migrant populations, identify vulnerable population groups and geographic areas with the most acute needs, inform development assistance planning and relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) targets, and provide sectoral and inter-sectoral baselines for future assessments. This report includes analysis on household demographics, migration history, documentation, education, employment, food security and livelihood, protection and child protection, gender relations, health access, WASH access, and shelter access.

The sample consists of 2,318 respondents, of whom 52 per cent identified as women and 48 per cent as men. Cambodian nationals made up 60 per cent of respondents while Myanmar nationals made up 40 per cent. Female respondents were more highly represented among Myanmar nationals (71%) compared to Cambodian nationals (40%). The average age among respondents was 37.2 years and 60 per cent identified themselves as the head of their household. Counting all respondents and their household members, 5,756 individuals are represented by the assessment.
