IOM Pakistan’s Weekly Situation Report on the Return of Undocumented Afghans through the Torkham border, reporting period [16th - 22th April 2017].
- During the week of 16th – 22nd April 2017, a total of 5,317 undocumented Afghans returned from Pakistan through the Torkham border, a 4 % decrease in the return caseload compare with the previous reporting period. Bringing the total undocumented Afghan returning to Afghanistan from Pakistan since the beginning of the year to 24,249
- Geographically 55% of people returned to Nangarhar, 24% to Kabul and 5% to Kunar. Nangarhar consistently garners the largest percentage of returnees since the beginning.
- During the reporting period, Lack of Documentation was the most commonly cited (80%) push factor. Trends across last four weeks indicates a consistent decrease in the proportion of respondents citing this as a push factor to return.
- As compared to the previous week, a decrease was observed in the proportion of respondents (2%) citing “Improvement in security situation” as a pull factor.
- All families were reported to be travelling with their household items/personal belongings. Around 34% families were travelling with productive assets including agricultural tool/seeds, rickshaw, sewing machines and 30% families also reported as taking cash with them.
- Over 50% families were travelling in rented trucks, 18% in buses and 28% in rented pick up. Only in two instances during this reporting period undocumented returnee families reported travelling in their own cars.
