This report focuses on findings from the Human Trafficking and Other Exploitative Practices Prevalence Indication Survey in the Central Mediterranean and the Eastern Mediterranean Routes between September and November 2016. The findings on this report are based on a sample of 3,002 migrants and refugees who were interviewed in October and November in almost 40 different locations in Sicily, Calabria and Apulia (Italy) for the Central Mediterranean route, and on a sample 4,450 migrants and refugees interviewed between September and November 2016 along the Eastern Mediterranean route. The findings provide strong evidence of predatory behavior in the environments through which extremely vulnerable populations are having to make their journey. A significant proportion of respondents reported direct experiences of abuse, exploitation or practices which may amount to human trafficking.
