Some 35,200 children arrived in Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, Spain, Cyprus and Malta in 2022 (18% girls and 82% boys) – 46% higher than total number of arrivals in 2021 (24,147). Some 23,500 children who arrived in Europe in 2022 were unaccompanied or separated (67% of total).

The Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022 forced millions of Ukrainians and third-country nationals living in Ukraine to flee their homes, many crossing international borders.

Key Findings: • 46% of respondents take care of one or more children in their household. Respondents with children are, on average, younger (40 years vs 51 years) and have higher levels of education (59% have a university degree vs. 47% among those without children).

As a result of the war in Ukraine, more than 6 million people have been forced to leave their country (UNHCR, June 2023). 1 The number of refugees from Ukraine, including Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), that have been granted Temporary Protection (TP) in Czechia as of 4 June 2023 was 341,117.

This report is based on 5,591 valid surveys collected by DTM between January and March 2023 with adult individuals crossing into Ukraine. About 95 per cent of them were Ukrainians, and 5 per cent Third-Country Nationals (TCNs).
