Pakistan — Flow Monitoring of Undocumented Afghan Returnees from Pakistan (1—7 April 2018)

In the period between 1—7 April 2018, 541 Undocumented Afghan individuals returned to Afghanistan through the Chaman/Spin Boldak border crossing whilst 436 individuals used the Torkham border crossing, bringing the total number of returns this week to 977 (192 families). This representes an approximate 3% increase in the total number of returns as compared to last week. The total number of Undocumented Afghans that returned spontaneously to Afghanistan since 1st January 2018 through Torkham and Chaman now stands at 7,317 (excluding deportations). Out of the total number of returns during the present reporting period, 48% returnees were male whereas 52% were female. The top 5 destination provinces for returns are: Kandahar (22%), Kabul (22%), Nangarhar (19%), Kunduz (10%) and Ghazni (5%). The largest proportion of returns is from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (37.9%), followed by Balochistan (27.8%), Punjab (14.8), and Sindh (14.6%). The primary reasons for return were economic factors, the wish to return home, and the fear of being deported.
