Pakistan — Flow Monitoring of Undocumented Afghan Returnees from Pakistan (8—14 July 2018)

Between 8-14 July 2018, 489 Undocumented Afghan individuals returned to Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing whilst 376 individuals used the Chaman/Spin Boldak border crossing, bringing the total number of returns this week to 865 (201 families). There is an approximate 3% decrease in the total number of returns as compared to last week. The total number of Undocumented Afghans that returned spontaneously to Afghanistan since 1st January 2018 through Torkham and Chaman now stands at 17,918 (excluding deportations). In comparison, during the same reporting period last year (Jan 1 – July 14, 2017) a total of 62,791 Undocumented Afghans returned spontaneously to Afghanistan (excluding deportations). Out of the total number of returns during the present reporting period, 55% returnees were male whereas 45% were female. The top 5 destination provinces for returns are: Kabul (25%), Nangarhar (19%), Kandahar (18%), Kunduz (6%), and Kunar (6%). The largest proportion of returns is from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (45%), followed by Baluchistan (30%), Punjab (13%), Sindh (12%) and FATA (3%).The primary factors for return were The wish to return home, the fear of deportation and economic factors.
