This Round 7 of the COVID-19 Situation Analysis is based on the assessment of knowledge, practice and impact of the pandemic on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in conflict-affected communities of northeast Nigeria.

Between 23 and 29 August 2021, a total of 2,180 movements were recorded in the states of Adamawa and Borno. The recorded movements consisted of 1,538 arrivals and 642 departures.

This Round 4 of the COVID-19 Situation Analysis is based on the assessment of knowledge, practice and impact of the pandemic on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in conflict-affected communities in the geopolitical zones north-central and north-west Nigeria.

The crisis currently affecting the Lake Chad Basin (LCB), which has displaced 3,0125,239 Internally Displaced Persons as of May 2021, is one of the worst humanitarian situations in the world.

The lingering conflict in Nigeria's North East Geopolitical Zone has been the major cause of widespread population displacement.

Nigeria's North Central and North West Zones are afflicted with a multidimensional crisis that is rooted in long-standing tensions between ethnic and religious groups and involves attacks by criminal groups and banditry/hirabah (such as kidnapping and grand larceny along major highways).

During the COVID-19 pandemic, IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), monitors the movements to and from Nigeria's Adamawa and Borno States, located in the North East Geopolitical Zone.

Between 16 and 22 August 2021, a total of 2,539 movements were recorded in the states of Adamawa and Borno. The recorded movements consisted of 1,837 arrivals and 702 departures.

With the onset of the rainy season in Nigeria’s northeastern state of Borno, varying degrees of damages have been reported in camps and camp-like settings. Heavy rainfalls, accompanied by strong winds have caused serious damages to IDP shelters and camp infrastructures.
