Europe — Flow Monitoring Surveys in the Mediterranean and Beyond: Syrian, Afghan and Iraqi respondents (8 October 2015 — 21 March 2016)
Between 8 October 2015 and 21 March 2016 IOM field staff in Greece, fYROM, Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary amassed interviews with 8,652 migrants and refugees, of which 94 people were interviewed over the week from 15 – 21 March. Individuals of Syrian, Afghan, Iraqi, nationalities comprised 86% of all respondents. The analysis of these three nationalities is presented in the following document. 90% of Syrians reported departing from Syria and 86% reported travelling with a group. The average Afghan respondent was 24 years old, with an overwhelming majority being male (88%). The majority of Afghan respondents (82%) were travelling with a group, while 18% reported travelling alone.
