In recent years, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has seen changes in its migration trends: there has been an intensification of flows towards traditional destinations as well as new destinations in the region and the world. 

The current political and economic situation in Venezuela is forcing a high number of Venezuelans to cross to neighboring countries in search of medicine, food, hygiene kits or hygienic supplies and work, in the hope of improving their economic situation.

Between 15 and 27 of January 2018, 25 open collective centers were assessed during DTM Round 4 in Dominica. These centers shelter 352 internally displaced persons (IDPs) (114 households).

1,906 individuals were observed crossing the border into Haitian territory. Of these 1,638 were voluntarily registered. 29 unaccompanied and separated children were identified, 15 of these were officially deported into Haitian territory.

During the reporting period 1,858 individuals were observed crossing the border into Haitian territory. Of these, 1,028 were voluntarily registered. 28 unaccompanied minors were identified. Of these, 12 had officially been deported into Haitian territory.
