The escalation of violence between all parties in north-eastern Nigeria since 2014 has resulted in mass displacement and deprivation in the states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe. To better understand the scope of displacement and assess the needs of affected populations, IOM has been implementing its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) programme starting July 2014, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs). The activities of the DTM project, which consist of conducting baseline assessments and registration for IDPs living in camps and host communities, are currently being carried out in Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe.
The information collected will contribute to the provision of a comprehensive profile of the IDP population in Nigeria which will be shared with all relevant stakeholders and will contribute towards enabling the government of Nigeria and humanitarian partners identify the needs of Nigeria's displaced population and develop interventions for providing IDPs necessary assistance.

Results show that the average daily number of individuals observed in July, at the FMPs in Nigeria, was 1,533.
Incessant rains have led to the displacement of some residents of Asheikri, Kawuri, Hausari, Ma’anna/Dagambi, Balle/Gallaba/Melari and Gumsa wards in the Geidam Local Government Area (LGA) of the northeastern state of Yobe.
Within the period of 5 – 11 August, a total of 1,084 movements were recorded, including 687 arrivals and 397 departures.
Within the period of 29 July - 4 August, a total of 1,390 movements were recorded, including 1,011 arrivals and 379 departures.
Batsari Government Model Primary School in Batsari LGA of Katsina state has recorded population movements that require urgent humanitarian response.
Within the period of 22 - 28 July, a total of 2,967 movements were recorded, including 2,297 arrivals and 670 departures.
The North Central and North West zones of Nigeria have been witnessing large scale population displacement caused by a spurt in criminal activities, such as kidnappings and attacks by herdsmen, as well as communal clashes.
Within the period of 15 - 21 July, a total of 1,390 movements were recorded, including 1,140 arrivals and 250 departures.
Between 8 -14 July 2019, 599 individuals (154 households) arrived at the Arabic Village Camp in the Ngala Local Government Area (LGA) (Borno State).
Results show that the average daily number of individuals observed in June, at the FMPs in Nigeria, was 1,419. This represents a three per cent decrease compared to May 2019, this was attributed to the extreme weather conditions (high rainfall) experienced on some days of the month.
Within the period of 8 - 14 July, a total of 2,974 movements were recorded, including 2,142 arrivals and 832 departures.
Within the period of 1 - 7 July, a total of 2,796 movements were recorded, including 2,021 arrivals and 775 departures.
Following the displacement of 9,432 individuals between 21 and 27 May 2019 from Sabon Gari Community to Damboa Town, 142 households (710 individuals) were being hosted in Unity Camp Phase 2, while 156 households (717 individuals) were accommodated in classrooms in GSS Damboa (SSS Quarters).
DTM Round 27 assessments were carried out from 25 March to 29 May 2019 in 107 LGAs including 795 wards in the conflict-affected north-eastern Nigerian states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe.

Within the period of 17 - 23 June, a total of 3,700 movements were recorded, including 2,190 arrivals and 1,510 departures.

In Nigeria, FMPs were established in March 2017 in several important transit locations in Sokoto and Kano to monitor the movements of passenger buses to and from Niger. This dashboard is an overview of the data collected in these FMPs in May 2019.

An increase in violent crimes in the northwestern Nigerian states of Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara has triggered large scale displacements and population movement within the states as well as across the international border to Niger Republic.

DTM Global Survey 2023
The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Global Survey 2023 is an annual stocktaking exercise which aims to present IOM DTM's operations and activities transparently. The Global Survey focuses on operations active from January 1 to December 31, 2023, with data collection occurring from February to April 2024.
