DTM implements the Baseline Mobility Assessment (BMA) in Kyrgyzstan to track mobility, provide information on population estimates, geographic distribution of migrant workers and return migrants, reasons for migration and countries of return. Data is collected at the village level from key informants and direct observations.

The Baseline Mobility Assessment (BMA) was conducted in all seven oblasts or provinces (Batken, Chui, Issyk-Kul, Jalal-Abad, Naryn, Osh, and Talas) including all 40 rayons or districts within these oblasts, and the two major cities of Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek city and Osh city). Compared to the previous round of data collection, where 999 communities were assessed, this round covered 1,076 communities through interviews with 1,417 key informants. Based on the key informants' estimates, 28,959 international migrant workers have been hosted in the assessed communities in Kyrgyzstan from 2022 to October 2024. Concurrently, the assessed communities are home to 53,576 internal migrants, while 192,885 Kyrgyz nationals are reported to be living abroad as emigrants. In addition, 110,977 migrants have returned from abroad. The Round four of the BMA is conducted in close coordination with The Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Migration (MLSSM) of Kyrgyzstan.
