The DTM Emergency Tracking Tool (ETT) is deployed to track and to collect information on large and sudden population movements, provide frequent updates on the scale of displacement and quantify the affected population when needed. As a sub-component of the Mobility Tracking methodology in Nigeria, ETT utilises direct observation and a broad network of key informants to capture best estimates of the affected population per location, enabling targeted humanitarian response planning.

Between 09 and 15 January 2023, a total of 1,366 new arrivals were recorded in locations in Adamawa and Borno States. The new arrivals were recorded at locations in Askira/Uba, Bama, Damboa, Dikwa, Gwoza, Hawul, Monguno, Ngala, Kaga and Kala Balge* Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the most conflict-affected state of Borno and in Gombi, Hong, Lamurde, Michika, Mubi
South, Song, Yola South and Yola North LGAs of Adamawa State.

Between 19 and 25 December 2022, a total of 2,072 new arrivals were recorded in locations in Adamawa and Borno States. The new arrivals were recorded at locations in Askira/Uba, Bama, Dikwa, Gwoza, Monguno, Ngala, and Kala Balge Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the most conflict-affected state of Borno and in Fufore, Girei, Hong, Maiha, Michika, Mubi South, Lamurde, Yola South and Yola North LGAs of Adamawa State.

According to the latest available figures from the Turkish Presidency of Migration Management (PMM), there are more than 5.2* million foreign nationals present in Turkish territory, 3.9* million of whom are seeking international protection. Most are Syrians (3,535,898* individuals) who are granted temporary protection status. In addition, international protection applicants from
countries including Afghanistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq constitute another group of foreign nationals. According to PMM, there were 29,256* international protection applicants present in Türkiye in 20211, published annually. Moreover, according to UNHCR**, there were 318,903 refugees and asylum-seekers in Türkiye as of mid of 2022. Since September 2022 the number of Syrians residing in camps has decreased by 481.

A total of 8.19 million crossings from Ukraine to Poland were recorded at border crossing points (BCPs) since 24 February 2022 according to Polish Border Guard data from 13 December. IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) conducted surveys with Ukrainian nationals before they crossed back to Ukraine from three border crossing points in Poland. This report provides an overview of key trends based on the 8,664 surveys that were conducted between 12 April and 31 December 2022 to assess the profiles, needs and intentions of refugees from Ukraine crossing from Poland back into Ukraine. Individuals crossing into Ukraine are not necessarily returnees and conclusions on definitive trends cannot be drawn. The sample is not representative of all persons crossing into Ukraine, results should hence only be considered as indicative.
