Since 24 February 2022, refugees from Ukraine and Third Country Nationals (TCNs) have been fleeing to neighbouring countries as a result of the war. 30,000 refugees from Ukraine and TCNs were registered in Hungary as of 18 October 2022, according to UNHCR and the Hungarian Government.

This report is based on a survey on displacement patterns, needs and intentions, launched by IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) in Hungary. All interviews were conducted face-to-face by IOM’s DTM trained enumerators with adult refugees and other TCNs fleeing Ukraine. The analysis is based on 344 surveys collected between 01 and 30 September 2022.

Interviews were carried out in various locations, such as Budapest (109) and ZáhonySzabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County (235), and in various settings, including border crossing and transit points (e.g., train stations), the Help Centre (run by the Budapest Municipality and IOM), and private and collective accommodations.

Since 24 February 2022, an increasing number of refugees and third-country nationals (TCNs) entering Lithuania has been registered by national authorities because of the war in Ukraine.

Approximately 67,000 Ukrainian nationals entered Lithuania and at least 4.000 have left the country between 24 February and 10 October 2022. The largest part of refugees from Ukraine were granted Temporary Protection and are reported to be accommodated in private accommodations offered by Lithuanian citizens.

According to “Statistics Lithuania”, 66 per cent of registered refugees are female and 34 per cent are male. Thirty-six per cent of Ukrainian refugees are children below 18 years of age, 59 per cent are adults in their working age (18-64 years old) and 5 per cent are older than 64 years.

Nearly 27 per cent are employed and 8 per cent are actively looking for employment. According to available data, Lithuanian authorities register about 150-200 daily new arrivals at the beginning of October and expect that the numbers of refugees might increase during the winter period.

This report is based on a survey on displacement patterns, needs and intentions launched by IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) in Lithuania in September 2022. All interviews were conducted face-to-face by IOM’s DTM trained enumerators with adult refugees and TCNs fleeing Ukraine. This report presents an analysis based on 360 surveys collected between 6 - 29 September 2022. The sample is not representative of all displaced populations from Ukraine into Lithuania, and results should only be considered as indicative.

Since 4 March, IOM’s DTM has deployed its teams to collect information on Refugee Flows to Poland: Needs and Intentions surveys with refugees using BCPs to cross into Poland. This report summarizes the results of crossings to Poland surveys between 12 April and 26 September initiated by IOM to assess the profiles and intentions of Ukrainians met while entering Poland from Ukraine.
From April 12th to September 26th, 2022, 4,193 surveys were conducted at locations near the Ukraine-Poland border, primarily in Przemysl railway/bus stations, transit centers and Medyka Border Crossing Point (BCP). This overview report breaks down the needs and intentions into two periods: April through June, and July through September; in order to gain insight into the changing needs and intentions of refugees from Ukraine who have entered Poland.

IOM Pakistan collects data on the outflows of undocumented Afghan migrants at the Torkham and Chaman border crossing points in an effort to better understand the migration movements of undocumented Afghan migrants returning to Afghanistan from
Pakistan. This exercise is part of the European Union funded project “Displacement Tracking Matrix Regional Evidence for Migration Analysis and Policy (DTM REMAP)”. From 24 Sep. to 7 Oct. 2022, 2,884 undocumented Afghan migrants returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan, including 410 through the Torkham border point and 2,508 through the Chaman border point. During the reporting period, border authorities facilitated the return of 240 individuals due to the lack of legal documentation
to remain in Pakistan. Therefore, information concerning these 240 individuals is not included in the report analysis.

Activated on an ad hoc basis, the DTM Emergency Tracking provides early field reports at the beginning of a complex crisis, allowing IOM to gather, consolidate and disseminate baseline information on displacement and return figures at the onset of a newly emerging crisis. The DTM Emergency Tracking relies heavily on information provided by RARTs or partners within the humanitarian community about an unfolding situation. The Emergency Tracking gathers data through IOM Burundi’s extended network of key informants, who provide basic information on the new displacement, be it of IDPs or returnees, or both, including numbers, location and shelter types. While IOM DTM strives to provide best estimates, the Emergency Tracking aims to be a quick monitoring tool with real-time data turnover ranging from 24 to 72 hours following its activation.
