This report, which presents the results from Round 43 of Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) assessments carried out by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), aims to improve the understanding of the scope of internal displacement and return movements in north-east Nigeria. The assessment for this report took place between 8 September and 29 November 2022 and reflects the number of IDPs from the six states in Nigeria’s north-east geopolitical zone. This zone is the most affected by the conflict and consists of the following states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe. This report also contains findings from the needs monitoring assessment conducted in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states which are the most affected states in the north-east zone.

In Round 43, a total of 2,375,846 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were identified in 483,507 households. This signifies a decrease of 3 per cent (or 79,344 individuals) compared to Round 42 when 2,455,190 IDPs were recorded (July 2022). Furthermore, 2,100,180 returnees were recorded in the Round 43 assessment. This number represents an increase of 117,050 individuals or more than six per cent compared to Round 41 when 1,983,130 returnees were recorded in June 2022.

The purpose of the Emergency Tracking Tool (ETT) is to collect information on large and sudden population movements as well as on security and climate emergencies. This dashboard provides information on movements which occurred during the period from 01 January to 28 February 2023, in the Lac Province.

During the period from January to February 2023, a large number of incidents were observed in the Lake Province, resulting in an increased number of displacements. A total of 2,412 households (8,387 individuals) have been affected by displacement. However, 80 per cent of the displacements occurred during the month of February. Furthermore, most of these people (84%) were local communities before these new displacements. It should be noted that these displacements were mainly caused by armed attacks (59%), floods (21%) and preventive displacement following armed attacks or kidnapping (14%). Indeed, 78 per cent of displaced individuals took refuge in localities situated in the same sous-préfectures as their provenances (see Table 1, page 2). The most reported urgent needs were non-food items (33%), food (30%), shelter (22%) and water (15%).

The Baseline Mobility Assessment (BMA) is part of the European Union-funded Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) project "Regional Evidence for Migration Analysis and Policy" (REMAP). The objective of DTM REMAP is to strengthen the evidence-based formulation and implementation of humanitarian and development policy and programming on migration and forced displacement. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the Government of Bangladesh, Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas employment (MoEWOE) began implementing Baseline Mobility Assessments (BMA) in Bangladesh to increase understanding of internal and international mobility in Bangladesh. This report presents the findings of the BMA data which was collected between May and August 2022 in Satkhira district using time frames: 2020 and 2021. DTM REMAP enables IOM and its partners to maximize resources, set priorities, and deliver better-targeted, evidence based, mobility-sensitive and sustainable humanitarian assistance and development programming.
