West and Central Africa

Since July 2016, several Flow Monitoring Points have been set up in strategic locations in Mali, such as Gao, Timbuktu, Kidal, Menaka, Mopti, Kayes, Segou, Sikasso and Bamako, to monitor the daily movements of migrants transiting to and from West and North African countries.

This report is an analysis of 17,000 flow monitoring surveys conducted with individual crossing one of the 30 IOM Flow Monitoring Points in the West and Central Africa Region (located in Burkina Faso, Chad, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal) between January and June 2018.

In September 2018, the average daily number of indiviuals observed at the Flow Monitoring Points increased by 12% compared to the previous month. Nationals from Mali, Guinea, Côte  d'Ivoire, Senegal and Gambia accounted for 81% of all the migrants recorded at the flow monitoring points.

In August 2018, on average, 222 individuals were observed daily at the Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs), which is a 15% decrease from the previous month.

In July 2018, the average daily number of individuals observed at the Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) increased by 8% compared to the previous month. Nationals from Mali, Guinea, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal and Gambia accounted for 82% of all the migrants recorded at the FMPs.

In Mali, several flow monitoring points have been progressively set up in important locations such as Gao, Timbuktu, Kidal, Menaka, Mopti, Kayes Segou, Sikasso, and Bamako, to monitor the daily movements of migrants heading to West and North African countries.

En 2017, la mission de l'OIM Niger a recueilli les témoignages de près de 9 100 migrants assistés dans quatre localités au Niger (Agadez, Arlit, Dirkou et Niamey), ainsi qu'à Diffa et Zinder.
