As of February 2016, IOM Niger has been carrying out flow monitoring of migrants at two points in Niger in the region of Agadez. This flow monitoring does not replace border monitoring nor does it claim to observe all migratory flows in the Agadez region.
In Mali, the number of individuals observed at the Flow Monitoring Points in October 2017 was 6,809 (1,768 incoming and 5,041 outgoing), bringing the total since June 2016 to 60,131 (7,088 incoming and 53,043 outgoing).
Throughout July 2017, 595 in-coming individuals and 4,066 out-going individuals were recorded at Mali flow monitoring points (FMPs). Based on the observation of 6 FMPs, it was noticed that the vast majority of recorded migrants at FMPs were young men.
This report contains an overview of the flow monitoring activities which took place in Niger between January and July 2017. In July DTM identified 6,058 incoming migrants and 3,937 outgoing migrants accross all the monitored flow monitoring points in Niger.
There was a slight increase in the number of migrants observed entering the flow monitoring points during this period. During the reporting period 7,142 outgoing and 9,411 incoming individuals were identified across the 2 active FMPs that were surveyed.
The movements recorded through the flow monitoring points during the reporting period were fewer than in the previous months. DTM recorded 4,687 outgoing and 7,304 incoming individuals observed at the two active Niger FMPs during the reporting period.
