CCCM has been supporting the INGC in identifying suitable sites to potentially relocate IDPs who are currently living in secondary schools that have been slated to reopen as per instruction of the Minister of Education. Four sites have been identified and have been surveyed.

IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix is monitoring in and out flows of current IDPs sites. The map shows individual IDPs that are being moved out of the schools to the new temporary relocation sites in Beira city.

As of 3 April 2019, according to Mozambique’s National Institute of Disaster Management (INGC), 131,136 individuals (32,290 families) have been displaced and taken shelter in evacuation centres in the four provinces of Sofala (107), Zambezia (3), Tete (5) and Manica (21).

From 26 March — 27 March, DTM teams in coordination with the Mozambique’s National Institute of Disaster Management, conducted a multi-sectoral location assessments in 32 displacement sites in Beira City. An estimated 22,346 individuals were identified in these sites.

As of 29 March 2019, according to Mozambique’s National Institute of Disaster Management (INGC), 140,784 individuals (29,098 families) have been displaced and taken shelter in evacuation centres in the four provinces of Sofala (116), Zambezia (13), Tete (5) and Manica (27).

As of 25 March 2019, according to Mozambique’s National Institute of Disaster Management (INGC), 128,941 individuals (26,425 families) have been displaced and taken shelter in evacuation centres in the four provinces of Sofala (103), Zambezia (10), Tete (4) and Manica (26).

From late 2015 up to 2016, Mozambique witnessed several severe droughts in the South and Central Regions in addition to political unrest in the Central Region.

Assessments completed in late June revealed a decrease in the total IDP population over the past three months. Overall, population declines were observed in 30 of the 48 communities.

Approximately 13,207 displaced families were identified within 46 relocation sites in Zambezia Province. 38 of 46 assessed sites reported an active site management committee comprised of community members. Malaria was noted as the most prevalent health problem in nearly all sites (89%).
