The Horn of Africa and Yemen is one of the busiest and riskiest migration corridors in the world travelled by hundreds of thousands of migrants, the majority of whom travel in an irregular manner, often relying on smugglers to facilitate movement along the Eastern Route.
In October 2023, a total of 40,370 movements were observed across the six flow monitoring points (FMPs) in Ethiopia. This represents a 4% increase in daily average movements in comparison with September 2023 when an average of 1,258 movements per day were observed.

On 21st October 2023, IOM and partners (UNHCR, DRC, and ACTED) conducted a rapid intention survey in Malakal TC to monitor the population dynamics and displacement patterns in the center and to inform humanitarian response.

In September 2023, a total of 37,742 movements were observed across the six flow monitoring points (FMPs) in Ethiopia. This represents a 6% increase in daily average movements in comparison with August 2023 when an average of 1,187 movements per day were observed.
As per October 2023 population count findings, the Bentiu IDP camp population stands at 99,519 individuals (15,891 households) in 11,905 inhabited shelters (an average of 8 individuals per shelter). This represents three per cent decrease compared to March 2023.
A total of 28,643 movements were observed in August 2023, representing 17 per cent increase compared to July 2023 when 24,583 movements were observed during this period.
