Monthly arrival by land and sea
The objective of the Emergency Tracking Tool (ETT) is to collect information on large and sudden population movements. Information is collected through key informant interviews or direct observation.
In January and February 2021, 575,874 migrants from over 41 nationalities were identified in all 100 Libyan municipalities during Round 35 of DTM data collection.
According to the latest available figures from the Turkish Directorate General of Migration Management (DGMM), there are more than 4.7* million foreign nationals present in Turkish territory, 3.6 million of whom are seeking international protection.

Between 4 April 2016 and 3 March 2021, 2,139* migrants have been readmitted to Turkey from Greece. Main points of return from Greece include Lesbos, Chios, Kos and Samos, while the main readmission points to Turkey include Dikili, Çeşme, Bodrum and Adana airport.

Between January and June 2020, 6,177 children arrived in Greece, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Malta. Of these, 2,302 (37%) were unaccompanied or separated children (UASC).

In the fourth quarter of 2020, a total of 37,454 migrants and refugees were registered arriving to Europe through the three Mediterranean routes, which is 12 per cent less than the 42,713 arrivals registered in the same period in 2019, and 10 per cent less than the 41,819 registered in 2018.
In November and December 2020, 571,464 migrants from over 41 nationalities were identified in all 100 Libyan municipalities during Round 34 of DTM data collection.
The FMS are part of the IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) activities in the Mediterranean region and started in October 2015 as part of IOM’s research on populations on the move to Europe.
